This is my favourite of the three locations in London. Many of the staff have made the move from when this was located on Wellington near the 401. They are always so helpful. It's a challenge to get into the parking lot if you are approaching on Fanshawe Park Rd from the east because you can't turn left into the parking lot.Prices are reasonable, especially if you wait for a sale and use their discount card. If you sew frequently, the discount card is worth the cost ($20) because it saves you either 25% or 50% off of regularly priced fabric, notions and décor plus there are membership appreciation sales and other promotions. The one thing that I don't like about Fabricland are the ridiculous policies. It's silly what management puts the customer and the staff through just to make a sale. Everything has to be written out by hand, then added up, then the various papers sorted and stapled... this is 2012, get with the program! A DECADE ago Walmart sold fabric using UPC codes so it only needed to be scanned at the counter. The cash counter is littered with disclaimers, exclusionary statements, and warnings. What is the point? Don't get me started on trying to look at a pattern! You can only get one at a time, and they won't give you the pattern pieces, just the envelope, which makes it exceedingly difficult to find finished measurements, establish lay-out, etc. Attention Fabricland management/owners: making every customer feel like a criminal on every trip is bad business. I honestly wonder how many cases per year they have of shoplifters fleeing the store, pattern in hand. Could the number of thefts possibly merit this kind of treatment? I doubt it. Seems more like a "pink ghetto" situation - the men (mostly) who run things have little appreciation for the women (mostly) who comprise the staff and have to enforce these policies that have questionable efficacy.I like the fabric selection, I like the prices, I like the service, but I don't like the feeling that management views every customer as a potential thief.

This location had recently renovated and now has two distinct areas. One with the fabric and one with all your accessory needs. Came here for some last minute items needed for Halloween touch ups and it worked out perfectly.Staff: They are friendly and helpful. Sometimes it can be difficult to find someone available to cut you some fabric but other than that, no complaints.Store: The parking lot can be quite busy since it is quite small. I suggest try going around the back because sometimes there's more room back there. The store is bigger than ever and houses almost every single type of fabric that you would probably need. There are always fabric on sale and if you're not looking for something particular (i.e. flexible with the material), you can probably find a decent deal here. If you purchase things often, I would suggest a membership for about $25; only get it if you do a lot of costume or designing though. I know there are plenty of other places that may do more unique prints of items but for the convenience I always think Fabricland is a great option (especially since this is Markham and not Toronto Queen West).I say for the area and the convenience this is a top-notch place for your fabric and designing needs!

Until recently I was opposed to sewing anything because I remember my home ec. classes in Grade 8 and I was terrible at it.  Then I started planning for a wedding and realized that I could save money if I did some of the stuff myself, so out I went to get myself a sewing machine and some supplies.I have yet to check out any other fabic stores but this place has been very kind to me.  I was able to walk up to one of the ladies that work there and ask if there was such a book as "Sewing for Dummies" and low and behold they have something along those lines.  It's not from the Dummies series but it's just as helpful.  I sewed my first sachet this week and I was darn proud of myself lol. They have a discount card that is $20/year or $40 for 3 years.  Since I knew I was going to be buying a lot of stuff there over the next year, I bought  and it's already paid for itself.  The only draw back is that the staff can sometimes be slow but that's because they are very efficient in servicing their customers.  At least they have been with me.  I will be back!

I had my share of this Fabricland in New West where I recently moved with my family. I thought I'd dress up my apartment with some drapes and tried to search for right materials. No help comes. The staff, mostly women are not very helpful. They'd ignore customers. There would be a line up at the till, only about 3 women would line up but no help came from other staff. Some reviews here at Yelp said the cutting tables were in a mess. That's true. You won't know which tables are for cutting. They are all filled with  stuff. Then a neighbor suggested I drive to Fabricana in Coquitlam. I did and the difference between Fabircana and Fabricland in terms of prices, customer service, product knowledge   and quality surpasses Fabricland.

The good side first: 1. it's in my neighbourhood2. it's small 3. most of the things I need are there. I sew professionally ( dresses and gowns)4. the prices are reasonable if you have membership. 5. they have sell good quality textileCons:1. if you have no membership and you're just there to buy little things, try the Dollar Store first.2. staff more busy with folding textile than helping customers check out. Only one till is open the the line, though short, takes 10-15 minutes.3. if you're standing on one side of the till and a staff decides to open a till, she will open the till that's far from you, making you drag heavy textile to her side.4. the staff gossip about other customers within the earshot of other customers.5. patterns are hard to access. no help comes easily6. one staff who looks really quite old, would always call someone else to help customers. this woman is not the manager. She's just lazy.7. A sales rep, would rip the cloth instead of cutting  it with scissors saying it's straight that way. She does this with cotton cloth and it never gets straight.8. You can't get a consultant readily available. The service in this outfit is terrible. Not all Fabriclands are like this, though. There are some good ones.Fabricana has a  lot more to offer in terms of customer service.

the store is awesome, the bargains are awesome, but the staff are so wonderful that you want to go back just for the service they provide.

Ok so most people know about the membership thing.  Seriously though I have been in there repeatedly and have only had one good customer service experience.  As of the last time I now refuse to go in there.  The service is bad.  If you are expecting the basics of Greet customer, Do not treat customer as if they are a hindrance to your job or helpful staff....  then do not go there.  The last time I went in looking for a pattern.  Waiting at the counter and then trying to flag a person down was rudely told they no longer carry Simplicity/new Look patterns.  Yeah I'm done.  There are other places I'd rather spend my money at.

What a joke.  You have to buy a membership to get the sale price and the sale price is the same as every other store in the lower mainland regular price.  And the membership is $30 if you don't want to give your email or $25 if you give it to them.  The fabric we were looking at was $22/meter or $9 with the membership that has to be renewed every year or drive to fabricana at its $10 no membership.  Will never go here or would I ever pay a fee to become a member anywhere.  And most of the customers in the store walked around like their shit don't stink.

Friendly service and as a first timer I loved how encouraging the staff was with my questions! Definitely made an intimidating experience an easy one! I will be back for sure! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the check out desk is really really really old school and filling out paper membership stuff was a little like taking a ride in a time machine! The store is old but with good customer service I will take it!

I will not be going back to this location ever again. Horrible service. I walk in, get a dirty look and get no hello, hi or nothing. I proceed to walk around attempting to find what I'm looking for. I had a hard time finding what I was looking for. I'm searching and searching, walking around like a chicken with its head cut off and not once did any of the ladies working there ask if I needed any help. Well, why would they? If they didn't acknowledge me when I walked in other than a dirty look, why would they offer to help me? So on the way out, I get another dirty look. Man, how I love wasting my time and than be insulted. Thank you fabricland. Never again.

this is one of the nicest little places locally to get fabric or notions for that piece of clothing that you've been wanting to make. I'd call the selection for the most part "vanilla" compared other places that can be found in the lower mainland though.  The staff is always helpful and willing to suss out that certain pattern you're looking for.  The membership card can get you some good discounts if you sew alot, and they send you flyers with the latest deals every quarter with ballots for various draws. Down side? sometimes prices are

I don't know what it is about that store but every single employee seems just miserable. Not sure if it's the environment or management but it's uncomfortable to shop there or heaven forbid you have to ask a question. Sure you get the answer but not before seeming like a nuisance. If you want to shop at fabricland go to the Northgate store. It has better hours and much more organised because they have a lot more space.

I agree with other reviewers. Employees are unpleasant at this store. I also found the number of handwritten signs in the store that was on Dewdney laughable; a whole bunch of signs telling customers not to do this or that, to follow a set of rules. I'm a librarian and everyone employed in a library knows when people see a lot of signs they don't read them. It's just human psychology. The store isn't well organized and the stock of sewing notions is missing many items. I'm really not keen on this place at all.

The staff here are incredibly unhelpful, and borderline racist. If you are a colored person, do not shop here. I was so insulted by the cashier, I should have thrown the stuff I wanted to buy in her face and walked out of the place. Rest assured, I will NEVER go back to this place again.

This is my favourite fabric land store. I find the staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Only once did one of the staff seem snappy, but it was very busy & some people kept changing their minds, with a big long line up at a cutting table. I have seen some very patient incidents where the customers were being unreasonably demanding & the staff totally didn't react. All staff have good product knowledge & if they don't know something, they will find someone else who does...... Great job New West Fabricland!!!!!

I went to buy fabric for my daughter's crib set yesterday... None of the ladies at the Mississauga location helped... I had some questions about where to find bumper pads and finally when i managed to find one person, she was very rude... I think the entire team in that store was awful... the cashier as well as the ladies who were cutting the fabric.. Trust me, I was in the store for over an hour. It's very sad because fabricland carries such a large selection...

After reading the two posted reviees, I reluctantly went to this location because the store by my home did not carry a wide selection of nursery/lullaby/quilting fabric The lady that served me was extremely patient, cooperative and helpful throughout the time I was in the store (approx 1 hour) She went out of her way to find matching/complimentary fabric for the panel I choose plus provided assistance with the weight of batting to purchase I am not sure what attitude the other two reviewers entered the store with but as the saying goes "you get what you give" I would like the owner and manager to know that this lady has made a believer of me that 'customer service' is alive and well and can be found at this location

I avoid this store like the plague and shop other fab land stores. I could not get what I needed at the one I usually go to and so I had to go to this store. The staff as always were rude. They lied to me as well. I had renewed my card prior to the end of August. On September 1st the discount for members was to go down to 20%. When they told me that they could no longer offer the 25% discount even though it was still August. One asked a supervisor who then told me They would give it to me. Then she had a whisper session in front of me with the cashier who then smugly and rudely rung up on 20%. So, one is penalized because I renewed early. Give me a break. I have shopped fabland in London, Erin Mills, Burlington, Toronto and Richmond Hill, but this store has always been rude and remains the rudest and most awful one to shop at. I won't be back.

I agree with the earlier comment about the staff rudeness at the John St. Fabricland location in Mississauga.I've been there a total of 3 times and have encountered terrible service. Oddly enough, the staff was basically the same people each time I've gone.I'm new to sewing so I'm not familiar with terms, how fabric is sold (what length, etc.) and general sewing jargon. You'd think they'd be helpful to encourage buyers to come back and buy more, but no, they are the snippiest biddies on earth!!!By no means was I rude to them during each visit but they have been condescending and rude each time. Terrible service! Never returning again!!!!
