CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- I enjoyed good rates from Direct Energy. At the end of the term, they contacted me re: a renewal plan. They did not help me understand that my rate would almost triple if I did not take immediate action. No phone calls, just mailings. CommEd rates are 7.43 cents per Kw/h...my <6.0 cents per Kw/h jumped to 12.5 cents. Why would it more than double?

DALLAS, TEXAS -- My ultimate complaint is that Direct Energy is so completely incompetent that remaining with them became impossible. During the first 6 months I received my electricity from Direct Energy I only received one bill. They were completely incapable of generating a bill. When the bills finally did start coming there were several conflicting statements that came. We paid each one almost immediately - though it was hard to tell what we actually owed.

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- I contracted for a fixed electric rate for 1 period of 12 "billing cycles." During the period of the 12th bill, I reviewed my utility billing statement to discover that my rate had changed for that month (and the month prior) from a fixed rate, to a (higher) variable rate. Their contract conditions are clearly stated in the written email acknowledgment I received from them when I signed up a year earlier, but they refused to agree to honor their own contract, and several of their phone representatives argued with me that I was wrong, even though I have a written contract!

GARFIELD, NEW JERSEY -- A guy came to our house and told us that if we switched to direct energy, we would have saved a lot of money because of the low rates. We believed him and switched. We started getting bills from Direct Energy which charged us twice more that what we always paid. Before we had to pay like $75 and after switching to Direct Energy, it has never been less than $115.

DALLAS, TEXAS -- Worst customer service ever!!! I have been with them over 2 years and never had a problem until it was time to renew. I never got any form of contact so I was lucky when I called to start up a new contract. They were really nice when I said I wanted to sign up again but when bill time came I realized that the lady had told me I was going with one plan and signed me up for another. I didn't think it would be a big deal and thought it would be easy to fix since it was just a mistake regarding a minimum usage fee versus a base charge, but the first few times I called they just credited me the difference saying that it was a mistake.

GUN BARREL CITY, TEXAS -- I signed up with Direct Energy when we moved to our new home. When I chose my plan online I by mistake chose the wrong plan that had auto pay I immediately changed my plan and called to verify that it was changed in their system. They told me it was and all was well. (Never once mentioning any fees or breakage costs). When I received my first bill I noticed a $15 charge for auto pay breakage fee. At first I was like, well ok, I did change my plan so I will go ahead and eat the charge. (Although I thought it was BS).

SAN LEON, TEXAS -- I was using the balanced billing with Direct Energy. I noticed our bills were escalating rapidly toward the end of 2006 then they started dropping off. I thought they had discovered their error and was actually billing for the correct usage. This was after the November 2006 billing. Then in April/May 2007 I got a balanced bill for $0. I knew then something was wrong and called. They checked and said my meter had STOPPED WORKING in November! I checked on the PUC website today and discovered they by law are supposed to read my meter at LEAST every 3 months. This meter "stoppage" wasn't discovered by THEM, I discovered it SIX MONTHS LATER!!!

CLEVELAND, OHIO -- What Direct Energy's website, fake online reputation management 'blogs', and high pressure sales people DON'T tell you is that the contracts are written to 'auto-renew' at a variable rate that, in the case of my elderly mother, instantly changed to 2.5 times the current market rate of gas in the middle of winter. Attempts to call the Guatemalan call center will result in hours of runaround, confusion, and attempts to lure you back into contract after the $100-200 of predatory mid-winter rate-jacking has been collected.

They will lie and cheat just to see that bill to get your account number and switch you over to Direct Energy behind your back. Before it's too late, you'll be stuck in with the worst terms and huge cancellation fees to get out of it. Just look up "Direct Energy Scam" on Google and there are thousands of stories like my own of Direct Energy scamming its customers if you don't believe me. A huge mistake to ever sign up with Direct Energy! No matter what they tell you, don't believe them. They are a rip off and not worth your money.

UNKNOWN, ILLINOIS -- ** called and said he was from Ameren. When I took the call, found out he was with Direct Energy, not Ameren. I informed ** that I get these sales calls every couple of weeks, and I've repeatedly asked them to stop calling, make notes in their system to stop calling, and to put me on the do not call list. I then asked to speak with his supervisor. After a lengthy wait, ** came on the line.

I had to move in to an apartment on 05/01/2015. I called up Direct Energy on 04/26, registered an account. They asked me to submit documents. After I submit asked documents I was asked to pay $400 as security deposit and they committed to provide service on time. But when I came to get into the apartment the service was posted for 05/04. I had to cancel Direct Energy account and had to take service from Ambit Energy. They got it everything done on the same day. Now that I am not with Direct Energy I requested for cancellation and refund the deposit on 05/01. I neither got service nor my $400. If I call there is no positive response then they keep repeating about their refund policy. Because of Direct energy I am in trouble. Please do not consider Direct Energy and get into trouble.

This company informed us that we were not in a contact with a provider and that they could save us money. Problem is, we were with another company. Now DE wants us to pay a fee to cancel our contract. We contacted our state public utility commission and found out that this company does this all the time.

Direct Energy took my August payment out twice. Per their people it will take 20 days to get the money back due to new system. My bank Wells Fargo will not help. They say policy is 10 days after investigating. Same amount, same date and even though Direct Energy claims fault. It's big companies squeezing the consumer.

Two people came and knocked on my door, claiming they were from Direct Energy. Being absorbed in my homework and such, I just believed them when they said they were the energy supplier for my energy company. They told me neighbors were complaining about pricing "fluctuations" and they would make sure the rate stayed constant for the next year, at least. I should have shut the door. I should have told them to look up my account someway other than my account number. I should have had them wait while I googled them or called my own energy company.

So, I purchased my house on May 2012. I paid my Enbridge/Direct Energy bills until recently (Feb 2015) when I noticed a leak in boiling room. I called Direct Energy and as soon as their technician opened the boiler room door, he said, "this tank is not for Direct Energy; it is for another company and it has been changed in 2011" (one year before I purchased the house). I told him, so why does Direct Energy charge me every month? He advised me to call Direct Energy Billing. A representative asked me to provide her with ROM (return of tank) form. I called the other company who had switched the tank; they said they cannot locate ROM form.

A Direct Energy rep called us around the end of March 2015 and offered to upgrade our current plan by $5.29/month and get services of electrician and appliance repair service. We said OK. The billing was changed to $10.90 more per month and they added a Heating Maintenance plan for $9.99 which was already included in the plan we had. This plan was not discussed at all. We also got billed an adj of $86.26 for this Heating Maintenance Plan! We have emailed customer service at Enbridge and the Ombudsman at Enbridge. They said if Direct Energy does not resolve this within 45 days they will take the charges off their billing system and we have to deal with Direct Energy directly!

I was happy with Direct Energy for 2 years. Then when I lost some income, I started paying bills late. In June 2015, I entered a deferred payment arrangement. Before the next bill, we were forced to move out because the house we rented did not have a proper certificate of occupancy. I emailed Direct Energy to disconnect service, they responded that I had to call to cancel services. I called and was told I would be charged a $200 termination fee. I said, "Do whatever you have to do, we don't live there anymore." Then a week later, we found out the electric was still on at the house. I emailed Direct Energy to make sure it wasn't being billed to me.

A female representative dressed in tight jeans with a plaid shirt tied around her waist and a Direct Energy t-shirt and a badge that she quickly flashed came to my 93 yr old father's home. She claimed she worked with his existing local energy company, Eversource, which I later found they do NOT. She asked for his energy bill to obtain the account number. I said I did not have it. I did not have a good feeling about her. I asked her in so that I could see what else she was looking to do. She kept entering things on an iPad she carried and said she would just need my signature on a contract. I signed a bogus name. I mentioned I was a paralegal and would need to read the contract and she immediately began to back off.

I phoned for a tech to fix my furnace. While he was here a phone call from direct energy came saying I should buy their maintenance ins. I asked if it would include this call that was going on at the same time. I was told “yes and it would be for $179 for the year.” The tech gave me a brochure showing that the service would be only 14.95 a month for a year and it would include his call. So I called back and told the direct energy. I would be interested in the service for 14.95 a month, they said “no, I had already accepted another plan.”??? A bill came for the fix for the tech... $200 which I paid in full and a bill that wanted $24.95 a month. I did not ask for this. I told them no, they said I had to pay this. They have phoned me 15 times plus threatening.

I am a new customer of Direct Energy and EVERY time I call you get a different answer. The sales person who took my order over the phone made multiple promotions. I have had to call at least 10 times in regards to these promotions and each time I called I was given a completely different answer. This is UNACCEPTABLE. I will be discontinuing my service with Direct energy and also will be reporting to the better business bureau.

My electricity service with Direct Energy was stopped with no reason in a hot summer day (98F). When I called customer service I have been told that I need to wait 24 to 48 hours to get reconnected. The supervisor of the customer service only tries to make me to understand that it is not their problem, but also not my problem for the interruption of the service. When I emphasize that it is an emergency situation in a hot summer day and need service back immediately I got no any help. The customer service was just tried to find excuse for the incident and not tried to help customer at all. After one hour conversation with Direct Energy I called other service provider and I get the promise to get new service in 2 hours. Actually it only took an hour for the new provider to get me connected.

I had a good rate in my original contract and they said I would receive notification of any rate changes. I did not receive notification or, if I did, the notification was intentionally made to look like junk mail that I'd miss. When my rate went up by 2.4x my original rate, to a level higher than any other provider in the industry IU could fine, and nearly twice the rate that even Direct Energy publicly advertised, I called them to complain. They basically said it was my fault for not reading the contract. What a bunch of goons. They did their best to trap me in what I consider a criminal rate and then they placed all the blame on me.

I have been getting phone calls from Direct Energy every single day. If my bill is not paid the day it is due, they call me the day after and every day until paid. They call it a friendly reminder, I call it harassment.

DO NOT GO WITH DIRECT ENERGY!!! Save yourself money, time and frustration and shut the door in the face of these door to door salesmen for this fraudulent American unnecessary middleman of a company! Edmonton. Said salesman had many claims at the door. I had to push for something in writing vs his say-so and he said, & was stated on the signed paperwork, sign up, read it and can cancel within 10 days at no penalty. OK. Read it over and felt a number of aspects warned that cancelling this new Direct Energy and continuing as was best. Called the next day (well within 10 days) and got a verbal confirmation that account would be processed for cancellation. Done.

I had got into a tight place one time and call Direct Energy to see if I could get an extension on my bill. Well they said no for some reason although I had never been late before, instead they offered me a deferred payment plan but only if I would allow them to place a switch hold on my meter. The agreement was once I paid all three payments of the deferred payment plan that I would have the switch hold removed. Well I followed through exactly and payed all three payment plans on time, as a matter of fact I overpaid the second one so that the over amount would cover the third when I underpaid it by $0.10.

This salesman came yesterday and offered their low generation rate. He was a bit pushy and asked some personal unrelated questions which annoyed me. I was naive enough to believe him. Googled this company later and it appeared to have a bad reputation. I called their number the next morning to cancel my contract, was told my name wasn't on their list yet so they did a "pre-cancellation", told me I could call back later to check the cancellation status. The next day I called again turned out my name was still on the list. This time they claimed they cancelled it. I also mailed back the notice of cancellation which was attached on the contract. Hopefully I am officially off their list. Now they have my utility account number. You never know what they are gonna do. Gotta keep an eye out.

For the last 2 months, I've been charged 48% of the amount of my bill for Oncor delivery service. This was assessed randomly. I've spoken to now 50 people and out of those 50...including my neighbors, only 6 have been charged. How did they get permission to pick and choose who gets charged? And why are they charging me, when they already charge my electric company... Or did DIRECT ENERGY do it on their own? And worse...there was no warning.

Plumbing maintenance Essentials plan - 1 unit repair. The salesman that sold me this plan told me that it was the coverage I needed if my water heater needed replacing. I bought the plan, believing that is what I was paying for in coverage. 10 months later, when my water heater started leaking, I called the company and they told me that I was not covered for replacing my water heater, but that I was covered for other items relating to plumbing. It still amazes me that someone can have such poor integrity and lie, just to make a sale. This company is not to be trusted.

Maybe things are different in MA. I switched to Direct Energy on my own last year before rates skyrocketed for the winter and locked in 12 cents a month for 9 months. In MA you still get billed by your normal utility, in my case National Grid. Just the supplier portion of the bill changes. Nothing else changed for me. It definitely saved me money. Even though my contract expired my rate stayed the same at 12 cents so they made some extra money because during the summer rates went back down to less than that. So I would give them a 4.5. Would be a 5 if they sent a reminder to renew etc. I now switched to Ambit for a 6 month fixed at the best rate I could find. There are a bunch of bad reviews for them as well but I don't expect issues because of the way MA handles the billing. The only issue I can see if not renewing/switching before the end of the contract but I am aware of that potential pitfall.

Terrible terrible company. I clearly have a "No soliciting" sign on my door, yet the company's employees think it's still okay to knock. I would like to say the two young men who knocked on my door told me from the beginning they worked for Consumers Energy (who is my current gas company) and this was only to fix my rate because there are "fluctuations" in my neighborhood. Bullcrap. He clicked a few things on his iPad and told me he just needed to take a quick look at my consumer bill. They even showed me paperwork with consumer's name on it! Unbelievable.

Every day a Direct Energy sales person (same guy every time) has come into my place of business and has asked to speak with the Doctor. I repeatedly have asked him not to come to the office. There is a "NO SOLICITING " sign on the door and it is there for a reason. The next day the same rep comes in with another rep and again asks to speak with the Doctor and every day I tell him that the Doctor is busy with patients. It is like "Groundhog Day" from Hell. This is the last straw. I told him today for the very last time that it is enough and not to return. I am reporting Direct Energy to the Utility Commission.

I received a phone call from Direct Energy. Sounded good. No one said anything about a new thermostat. We received a thermostat w/ instructions. Ok we tried to put it in. It was not compatible with our system. They are charging us for use of a thermostat we do not have. Call Customer Service. No answer. Called Direct Energy. They said we never returned it. They want me to call Customer Service and gave me the number. Called. Did not get an answer again. What? Put on hold for 3 hrs then was told to leave my name and number. No one called back. They want me to pay 200 to switch companies. Can you help me?

Switched to Direct Energy 8/1/15, cancelled switch 8/3/15, same day lights went off. No warning. Want to be compensated for lost of over $20,000 in medical, room, and food. Public Utility Commission say they violated substantive rule 25.495 and 24.483. Before you switch to DE make sure the Treat is not a Trick!

Just slam the door on these direct energy scammers. They ring your doorbell and try to get you to switch your electricity and natural gas plans to far higher rates. The contracts are incredibly bad, 5 years long and have huge fees to get out of it. Never let them see your bill or they'll write down your account numbers and switch you over without your permission.

Direct Energy Business walked in to my store a couple yrs ago disguised as a reputable company. They explained to me that they took over the previous company's accounts, and I signed on in good faith. Not only has this not been the case, but their billing practices have left me scratching my head month after month. On my March 11, 2015 electricity bill, I show a balance of $0 forwarded from last month. This bill also charges me $792.51 when my average bill has been under $300 each month.

We got a bill three years after purchasing our house for a rental which we did not, nor ever, have. After nearly six months of explaining this to them repeatedly and reporting them to the privacy commissioner, they withdrew the bill. Since then we have been receiving robocalls in a daily basis from their collections department. I have spoken to over ten people there who can't figure out how to make it stop. Today I called again after receiving another call and they put me on hold for 24 minutes and then hung up on me. They are the most incompetent buffoons I have ever had to deal with.

When Direct Energy has sales people knock at your door they don't take no thank you as your final answer. They continue to sale their discount for electricity to you even when you have ask them to leave, you're not interested. Then they stated to me, "if you sign up for our discount we won't keep coming back." Very unhappy with this company. I don't feel I have given this company a reason why.

I contacted DE because of an unauthorized payment on my account, I called over 30 times in one day because every agent I was connected through hung up the on me. The "managers" and "customer service" are full of it. I HATE DIRECT ENERGY!!! I WILL BE CANCELING MY ACCOUNT!

I would give these fools less than a star if I could.  I am not even a customer, but they call me twice a week at my work phone number, and at first asked them politely to remove me, informing them I am not a residential business.  Now I've resorted to screaming into the phone like some kind of maniac.  I would try screening my calls, but sometimes when I am busy grabbing my phone is an automatic reaction, you know, DURING WORK HOURS. Which is understandable.I would never do business with a company that can't even be bothered to take a simple request into account.

Terrible and inconsistent customer service. If EVER you need an extension be prepared to be talked to like a criminal. In 20 months I've had to ask for two extensions and both times was a terrible ordeal that had me calling back multiple times and spending nearly an hour on the phone overall. The second time my extension was denied even though I had my money order reciept number and they still wouldn't help me. The money order was in the mail and they disconnected me...Once my contract is up I'm out!

So here is the deal, my grandma paid the $ 200 dollar deposit. We have bank records and a confirmation number and whatnot. They said she never paid the deposit and keep cutting off her  power. The lights are cut off everyday because they have her on this prepaid thing until she can get it taken care of. The people are completely unhelpful and it seems like they are doing nothing to help. It has been TWO WEEKS and nothing has been done. Do not trust them with your money, if you have other choices go for it. Not worth it at all.

Been with Direct Energy since 2013 and they keep finding ways to make me loathe them. First off, I never received any of the promised rewards or promotions they have had. When I mention it, they throw out some lame excuse why I have not received it. If you are 3 days late, they will charge you a $30 disconnect fee. Customer service is horrendous!! The agents are rude, lack common sense and you will get a different answer every time you call. Here's the last straw for me; they pulled from my bank twice and are now telling me it will take 7 days to refund me. Not only that, but they implied I was at fault because I made the payment on their app instead if calling it in. No apologies or urgency to refund the money they took in error. I'm done with this shady company.

Their customer service is atrocious. Once my contract is up, I'm out. I signed up for the Nest plan. Not only did they change my account immediately to this plan, they failed to inform that the Nest would not even ship for 6-8 weeks. I don't understand why they are allowed to increase my rate to for that plan without providing the necessary equipment. I have called twice on this and the last time the "account manager" couldn't be bothered to check on the order so hit to transfer the call to Nest directly.

When they were my energy provider I had no complaints but when my contract was up I switched to a cheaper option. Now every few months they will call my house about 4 times a day, leave no message and not speak if someone answers.  This will go on for a month or two, then stop for a few months and then repeat the cycle.  I don't see the point of this, incredibly stalky! Seriously, I just wanted an energy provider. I finally have the ability to block their calls but I'd think twice before doing business with them.

I have had DE for 1 year with no problem UNTIL my contract expired. I contacted DE on 3 separate occasions to extend my service. Very lengthy conversations with no resolution.Issue 1. You do not offer your good customers the same great rates as new customers.Issue 2. Your reps do not honor your advertised prices online.Issue 3. When I asked for clarity on when I can cancel without penalty they hung up on me.Final Issue 4. Trying to switch and they say I have a balance but NO ONE can explain why or how much.Stay away from Direct Energy Texas.

The worst company I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. After reading the reviews I rescinded my request within the time allotted. I then started a contract with another company. I called to confirm that they had canceled my service twice and they assured it was canceled. Suddenly my new company canceled me and charged me the termination fee because direct NEVER canceled it. When I called they hung up on me 2 times and played games for hours. Stay away from them like the plague. I'd give them 0 stars if that was possible.

THE WORST company I have dealt with in my life. Sales rep came to my door offering lower prices and to waive my cancellation fee with my current provider (Reliant), but when I called them back their number changed. Tried getting this solved with DE and they are trying to charge me $300 as a cancellation fee. So basically I've wasted 2+ hours of my life, have to deal with paying the early cancellation fee from Reliant and supposedly now another from DE (total of $550).They life, cheat, and steal so PLEASE DO NOT get this company as your service provider.

I tried to lock in a rate for Direct Energy as my gas ESCO for my business.I had hours on phone the first time, and found out that the enrollment never went through. Called back a second time, another hour and a half, and finally resolved...or so I thought! A month later, I found out that they had never enrolled me- all the confirmation codes were lost and no information of my account was recorded whatsoever each time.I noted the conversations, the names of customer reps and it was all for naught! They all acted as if the conversations never happened!

This is a horrible company. I have A1 credit and never have been asked to fax a copy of my SS card and DL. Are you crazy I would never fax my info out like that. I was told I was approved but 3 days later was asked for this info. BIG RED FLAG!!!!!!!

I have worked for the company and i warn you not to do anything at the door..the people tbey hire are all drug users hired threw 3rd party who are knocking on your door...you can get better rates going on power to choose...it was the worst drug fueled environment ive ever worked in  dont believe me? I dare you to contact the appropriate persons to do random drug testing...AND THIS IS FROM UPPER MANAGEMENT DOWN!!! they teach sales reps how to deceptively "close" customers..whatever you do dont do it!!!!!! I signed on for balanced billing last year paid 225$ a month. Labor Day weekend I received a disconnect notice for 1498$!! I was so upset. I called right away....my balanced billing was canceled with no notice or explanation. I was treated like a criminal because I didn't have 1500$ laying around to pay them. I was hung up on 3 times on the phone having to start from scratch each time. I finally got a guy who would set me up with a payment plan. 555$ due September 8th with first payment due of 88$ due to coincide with my current charges. Paid 600$ September 8th and 520$ October 10th (bill due date) received disconnect notice. Started calling and being hung up on again. They acknowledge my payment arrangement was set up incorrectly and did not coincide with my bill as stated and said my payment plan was broken because it was due the 8th. I requested my payment plan be reinstated to which they replied they can not because my payment plan was broken.....finally they agreed to a new plan but I would have to pay 245$ right away. Again I'm offered charity because after paying them a mortgage payment I do not have 245$ today. I finally receive a letter indicating that my switch hold has been removed as my prior balance was paid. I had paid them 1900$ from September to December. My new company took effect January 14th. On February 21 I received a collection agency letter on behalf of Direct Energy for almost 1200$. Never did I receive an itemized bill for these charges. I filed another complaint with the Public utilities comission. I received a call from Danielle this morning from "the presidents office" she repeated that she had discussed this all with me in October- okay, my past due balance was paid in full per your letter. the emails I received indicated my monthly usage was no more than 120.00 and I was paying 300$ monthly. She kept indicating that 1000$ had "washed up" Really, "Washed up?????" that is your professional explanation??? She then stated well, do you just want me to type my response to the public utility comission. Please do, because I will not pay another cent to this userious company.

stay for away!  IN CT More than a year ago employees were informed, this electricity provider offered a rate of  .073500.  However, my current rate is .164900, which has resulted in an astronomical electric bill.  Evidently the contract expired; the rate is now variable and that was stated somewhere in the fine print.  If you try to contact them, it is a very lengthy process and they will do nothing to help you.i just wanted to make their policies very clear to all, as those policies were not clear to me.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!  Do NOT use this company.  I have been dealing with this nightmare for over a year and finally got out of my contract with these thieves.  If you are three days late paying your bill they will schedule you for disconnection and charge you $30.  You will never receive anything in the mail about the disconnect.  And on top of that they charge you a late fee.  Late after only three days and all these charges....give me a break.  They will blow up your phone even after multiple requests to stop calling.  I actually filed a complaint from all the phone calls.    Last time I moved my bills were outrageous.  After numerous phone calls and hours on the phone was told they were billing me for both addresses (old and new) even though I submitted a transfer of service.  Was told I should have looked more carefully at my bills, it was my fault I paid the bills, and too bad.  Insane!  Glad I paid someone else's electric bill for three months, you're welcome.Their rates are nothing spectacular, their billing is horrible, customer service is a joke, out of control fees, amount of phone calls bordering on harassment.  Finally this nightmare is over....oh gosh I hope

SHUT OFF ELECTRIC! STAY AWAY!I would rate 0 stars if I could! Direct energy sent me a bill due on the fith of September. Due to circumstances, I received my next bill before the first was paid. The new bill showed both amounts and a due date of Oct 6th. I figured I would wait and pay both at once. Then, at the end of Sept, my electric was shut off! Their defense was that I knew I had a previous balance! They had tried this before, when i was about a week late on my payment due to my pay schedule they told me they were shutting off my electric. They also call up to 5 times a day starting days before my due date. When I answer they dont say anything then hang up! I went to the BBB but it only took them about 2 hours to close my complaint. All they said was they couldn't help me and I should make sure I read the fine print! Whatever that means! It is not leagal to shut off someone's electric just because! They have a D+ rating with the BBB and it should not be that high! Looking for a new company but I will have to pay a substantial disconnect fee to direct energy first. I'm starting to think that they make their money with disconnect fees!

I recently moved from having utilities included in rent to having to pay utilities - so I had to open new accounts with direct energy and enmax - Wow - what a huge difference in dealing with companies. I am very impressed with Direct Energy - there were some issues with past tenants here and was hit hard with Enmax regarding some issues when opening a new account. Direct Energy there were no questions - gave me a small deposit to pay compared to Enmax deposit - I returned the other tenants mail that came here to return to sender due to the other tenants moving - Enmax is still sending their mail here wasting the postage and envelope costs that come out of our pockets. Direct Energy - 5 thumbs up, thank you for the trouble free moving experience - and thank you for being a professional company. Extremely disappointed in Enmax - wow, what they actually put me through, on top of the added moving in stress, received a phone apology from Enmax company with a 50 credit - for me that really wasn't enough considering what I actually had to deal with from them being a NEW customer. Direct energy is the worst I've ever had to deal with. intense bill screw ups and customer service located in the Philippians where they don't even have a similar utility structure, with no office to address someone face to face and the run around on the phone for 10 months then gave them a deadline for resolution and they just said fine we can't resolve anything for you, pay us 600$ again.

Direct energy has been setting me up new accounts for the past 4 years and sending me to collections for a balance that I paid in 2012. I keep getting it fixed with the collection agency they choose for that time because I don't owe it, and then some how a new account is set up under one of the 2 addresses I had service with them in 2012, send to a different collecting agency without me having service since 2012 and nothing sent to me. They just create the new account pick one of the addresses and send to collection. SCREW YOU Direct Energy!!!!!!

I had a really great customer service experience from Direct Energy. The technician that I spoke to, his name was Mike, was absolutely amazing. Customer service, in most areas of it, has really dropped in quality but there are still times when you get blown away at someone's desire to help you to have a really positive outcome. It turns out that I had a problem with my limit switch, Mike was patient with my questions and explained how things work in a way that I could understand. I need to have the part replaced and Direct Energy will be doing the job. Thanks for great customer service and affordable prices!

This company has the greatest number of complaints in the state of Texas and there are several blogs and website dedicated to warn consumers. There are thousands upon thousands public horror stories from previous DE customers and what they experienced. If these very things were done by individuals or small business they would have been charged, arrested, jailed and have to serve a prison sentence. I feel totally violated by DE's customer service, deceptive billing, changing my plan without my permission or knowledge, the lack of communication and explanation of anything and what appears to me as total theft by deception which is criminal.

Stay away from Direct Energy. They locked me into a contract for 3 years without telling me and being upfront with one of their door-to-door saleswoman. The first 2 years were OK, In fact I thought I made a good decision. WRONG! That final year is when they got their money. My bill spiked to double if not triple the rate for a year. My summer bills were $180 on a bad month prior to the switch from another not-so-great competitor, with direct I was seeing $460 a month in the summer. YOU ARE TERRIBLE DIRECT ENERGY!

Ok, let me begin with direct energy is a scam. I signed up for the 400 dollar gift card. They pay you 200 for paying 3 months on time and the remaining 200 for paying your bill 1 year on time. I have not recieved anything. When i called them every representative kept telling me theres nothing they can do and they kept transferring me to the next operator who has the same answer. There rates are high for the plan i got and i cant cancel with out having a fee. I am stuck with them for another year. Trash, also there website sucks. They dont ever update it and it shows my bill from like 7 months ago. The customer service sucks too because they can barely speak english and have an attitude.

Stay away from these absolute pieces of dung. they have billed my dead parents since May, each time I call they say it'll be the last one. Supervisor John with no last name actually listed on my account that I am dead. All is fine as long as you have no questions or quandaries but once you need service, they turn into a bunch of chimpanzees who only push buttons and don't even get THAT right. And they keep saying "being as you are not the account holder I can't release that information". I told them to go and collect the money from my father then.

I wrote a very long review 8 months ago about the absolute hell they put me through, and now i am right back in it. I will make this really easy to read. 1. I was with Direct Energy (DE) Regulated Services. 2. Guy comes to door says if I combine gas and elec it saves me money, I get free nest thermostat, and it still is with Direct Energy. 3. I specifically ask if it changes my billing or accounts or anything I am told NO its all with Direct Energy still. 4. I get my Nest thermostat, everything is great! I get a call from collections saying I owe them $1500! 5. I contact them ask WTF I have paid all my bills to find out they CANCELLED my DE Regulated Services account and opened a new Direct Energy Essential Services account. 6. They de-activate my DE Essential Services account for not paying the $1500 when I asked them if they could transfer the $1500 credit from my regulated services account they said no. 7. I wrote this review and they contacted me and said they would make things right and they did. UNTIL LAST WEEK WHEN THEY SENT ME A LETTER SAYING I OWE THEM THE $210 FOR MY NEST THERMOSTAT BECAUSE MY ACCOUNT WAS DE-ACTIVATED FOR 2 DAYS DURING THE CONFUSION . I am so tired of dealing with this company its beyond believe, I feel like it has to by all computer generated reports because if any human looked at the account and saw what transpired they would understand that I should not be charged for this. You read in the news all the time about DE and their sales and billing tactics and its just sad when I thought they made it right and I was through all the BS and they were back on my good side to get blind sided like this. Here goes another 2 hour conversation with DE over the phone. :(

What customer service? I am changing providers as soon as I can. I received 4 invoices in one day - each in a different amount, the largest being over $800. No explanation. I called their "customer service" and got a call center in Guatemala. I asked to speak to someone in Canada and was told there is no one in Canada AT ALL that I could speak to. They have call centres in Guatemala and Manila. That's it. The only explanation this guy could give me as to why I received these invoices was that maybe they didn't have enough staff to come out and read the meter. For four months??? I then sent an email to them. Still haven't heard back. It's been 2 weeks. Unbelievable.

Switched to Direct Energy so I could get a free nest thermostat, got the thermostat all was good .l decided to install brand-new hi efficiency furnace. After I had the furnace installed winter came I was expecting lower bills since I have a brand-new furnace. All of my bills compared to last year with the other company have been way higher than the previous year this is with putting in a brand new furnace . I. Work in and out of town my this is why I got the nest thermostat so I could regulate my temperature is better. My thermostat is never set above 21° the total square footage for my house is 1200 ft.² including the basement. i will be switching back to the other provider ,these guys can't explain why my bills are so high but they are always willing to change the rates for a fee of course.

I am shocked at these reviews, and seem to think that people are mistaken with difference between the installation company and providers. I recently had my furnace and hot water replaced a few months ago, which are both in very tight places...and the installers did an amazing and timely job! both men were very polite and professional, and cleaned up so well afterwards the area was left better than before they arrived! I recommended them to family members whom have had the same great experience. I do not have my utilities with them so I cannot comment, otherwise great job guys, thanks again!

Pretty sure I got scammed by these idiots. I'm still waiting on a bill from November 2015 to current, I keep calling and asking and they tell me it takes a long time to make because it's so many months. Ummmm okay? I added my fiancé's name to the account so he could call and deal with them, they told me he would be able to. He calls and they tell him he doesn't have authority to call. Complete BS. Every single time I call it's a headache. The menu makes no sense, no one speaks English, and no one ever is able to help me. I'm switching companies ASAP.

I received 4 bills all at the same time. They were all different prices they started at $189 to $690. When I phoned they were not helpful they were giving me all these numbers for different reasons and I added those up and they didn't total $690. Then they told me that they had made some mistakes in my billing from months prior so that's why it was that much they refused to do anything about it and I received a letter telling me it is going to collections.

At the time of writing this, the phone number given when one Googles Direct Energy is "not in service", and their automated phone-in options is a labyrinthine mess of options, none of which were leading to anything even remotely resembling the help I needed, and none of which lead to any operator to whom I could speak. We have been continually having problems with direct energy billing over the last months. We continually may receive more than one bill for the same month with us having a credit. This month we received 5 bills in 5 separate envelopes. The bills range from owing $171.76 to gradually increasing in credit value to the 5th billing having a credit of $2794.84 . We spent some time speaking with an agent who had great difficulty explaining the billing. We asked to speak to a supervisor who also had trouble explaining why we were receiving all of the bills. We were frustrated and confused with the results we received and simply not satisfied. The supervisor said our complaint would be sent up higher. So what? Does this improve their service. Can't wait until next month.
